Do you think Brian Leetch deserved the Conn Smythe Trophy and earned it?

I hear some people say he didn't deserve it becasue he was US born. If so, who do you think MAY be the second US born NHL player to win that trophy in the distant future. There is always a possibility that another American NHL player may win this particular trophy, it just porbably won't come to it anytime soon.
